[ GOALS OF THE FOUNDATION ]
To promote ethical and sustainable development in the Sicilian wine sector, accompanying and directing wineries towards the constant measurement and reduction of the impact that agricultural practices have on the territory. These are only some of the goals of the Sicily SOStain Foundation, the new environmental challenge launched by the Consortium for the Protection of Sicilian DOC Wines and Assovini Sicilia, united in the desire to guide wineries towards a path of comprehensive environmental protection.
[ SUSTAINABILITY IN SICILY ]
SOStain Siciliais a sustainability programme for Sicilian viticulture promoted by the Consortium for the Protection of Sicilian DOC Wines and by Assovini Sicilia with the purpose of certifying the sustainability of the regional wine sector. SOStain is based on the awareness that the impact of agricultural activities goes well beyond the boundaries of the fields being cultivated – they also impact the welfare of workers and the health of consumers, the involvement of local communities, the enhancement of the surrounding territory and the preservation of natural resources. For this reason, the program includes a Disciplinary consisting of 10 minimum requirements which include aspects ranging from the measurement of water footprint and of carbon footprint to the control of the weight of the bottle, from the conservation of flora and fauna biodiversity to the enhancement of human and territorial capital, from energy saving to consumer health.
